Northern Counties Builders Federation (NCBF) has confirmed Chris Morris as senior vice-president and Tony Kay as its new secretary. Chris, company secretary at Compass Developments, takes on the role from Matthew McCarrick who becomes junior vice-president.

Tony, a director at Classic Masonry and Bespoke Concrete, was previously former NCBF president from 2020-2024. He was succeeded by current president, Angela Carney. He takes on the role of secretary from Neil Ramsey, who held the position from 2015.

The NCBF is a long-established membership association, bringing together construction companies and contractors operating in the North East of England. It is proactive in raising the profile of its members, supporting training and apprenticeships and helping to future-proof the region’s construction industry.

The NCBF’s focus is very much on bridging the skills gap and its collaboration with Constructing Excellence North East to relaunch the North East Schools Wonder Challenge, has brought construction to the forefront of student’s minds. In 2023, the NCBF also successfully launched its Building Your Future campaign, aimed at connecting regional construction companies with final year trade apprentices at North East colleges and it is continuing to challenge the image that construction is hard hats and muddy fields.

Angela Carney, president at NCBF, said: “Chris and Tony both play a crucial role within the committee and have helped to achieve a range of highly successful outcomes in those areas where we look to achieve maximum impact, such as the skills gap, tackling the image of our sector and working closely with the region’s educational providers.

“As a collective, our role is to help facilitate the development and maintenance of a sustainable North East construction industry. As we turn our attention to the latter half of 2025 and towards 2026, we will be continuing to work alongside colleges with our Building Your Future campaign and we also have an exciting joinery challenge that will be launched in the Autumn.”

Chris Morris, said: “This is an interesting time to take on the senior vice-president role. The Government is looking increasingly to our sector to drive growth and we shall have to see what incentives and support are made available to enable us to train the number of people required. Meanwhile, in line with our strategy to tackle the image of our industry and encourage many more people to enter it, the NCBF is undertaking a rebrand and will be launching its new website to showcase the industry as a modern, attractive sector to work within.”
